There, a group of black businesspeople, frustrated by the lack of access to funding, sought to create a bank that would support their aspirations. Driven by the entrepreneurial spirit of finance industry legends such as the late Dr Sam Motsuenyane and the late Dr Richard Maponya, Africanbank opened its first branch in 1975.
